Do I need therapy?

Making the decision to look after your mental health

Deciding to go to therapy can be a daunting decision and our defence mechanisms can persuade us that we are just fine without it, that we can cope on our own.

Our mental health can take a dip for many reasons at many stages in our lifespan.

It can affect our physical health, our sleep patterns, our careers, and most crucially, our relationship with loved ones.

Attending therapy when our mental health is in decline, for whatever reason, is an act of self-care.

Psychologist Session

How I work as a psychotherapist….

I can work with almost all issues. Many times, the real issue arises further into the therapy journey.

We can take therapy at your own pace and provide a safe and highly confidential space for you.

As a therapist, I work with many modalities, the main one being a person-centred approach (Carl Rogers, 1967), where I always have unconditional positive regard for my clients. I have genuine empathy and am entirely non-judgemental.

Therapy is the one place where you do not have to censor your words.

I use many other theoretical modalities and work in an integrative and flexible approach.

What happens after the first session?
In your first session, I will listen to your issues and discover why you have decided to start therapy.   The aim is to get to know each other and create a safe and confidential environment, where you, the client, feels listened to and understood.
Upon meeting you and understanding your concerns, I will decide what form of therapy will suit you best.
As well as person-centred therapy, I can also work with the following modalities, and I combine them differently for each client:
MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). I also work from both a Psychodynamic and Existential perspective. I can work also with IFS (Internal Family Systems) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.  I also work with MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and MSC (Mindfulness and Self Compassion).
